Simon has shoulder surgery, out 6-7 months taken on the North Shore (Penguins)

Dominik Simon turns away from the Sharks' Jacob Middleton, Feb. 29 in San Jose, Calif. - GETTY

Dominik Simon underwent successful surgery on April 29 to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, the Penguins announced on Thursday.

Simon is expected to be sidelined for six to seven months as a result of the surgery, likely keeping him out of the Penguins' lineup until November.

The Penguins say Simon suffered the injury on February 29 in a game against the Sharks in San Jose, the last game Simon played this season. Simon left the game in the third period after a collision with Sharks defensemen Radim Simek.
