Late-round sleepers worth Steelers' wait taken on the North Shore (Steelers)

Dale Lolley has given you an extended look at the 2020 NFL Draft class and how it could benefit the Steelers, with his latest daily edition addressing wide receivers.

Kevin Colbert will still have his shot at a very good prospect when the Steelers' first pick at 49th overall comes around, but there are always talented players that are worthy gambles in the later rounds.

Dejan Kovacevic argued last week against the Steelers taking a wide receiver in the second round, and I agree that wouldn't be necessary. Not only because they have three players for that value already on the roster in JuJu Smith-SchusterJames Washington and Diontae Johnson, but also because this draft class is so deep at wide receiver that they could find a legitimate future starter in the fourth round or beyond.

Let's take a look at a few key position groups and try to find players who might fall into those later rounds:

RUNNING BACK

My money is on the Steelers taking a running back in the second round because they should easily have a shot at selecting a top-five back from this class. But should Colbert and Mike Tomlin seek to reinforce other positions with their second- and third-round picks, there would still be a handful of valuable backs in the later rounds:

Anthony McFarland
School:
Maryland
Projection: 4th/5th rounds

McFarland is a smaller back at 5-foot-8, but he's dangerous with the ball in his hands, and his lateral quickness is extremely impressive. He gained 1,648 yards on 245 carries and scored 12 touchdowns in his two years with Maryland.

His 4.44 time in the 40-yard dash shows with his football speed. Watch how he cuts back against Ohio State and then quickly accelerates to avoid the safety at the second level for extra yards. You can see him processing his move to cut toward the sideline while he's already working his way around the initial stunt of the defensive line:
