The Pirates teamed up with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank again Monday, helping to distribute food to 1,000 Pittsburgh families at the Food Bank's headquarters in Duquesne.
According to Charlese McKinney, who led the distribution for the Food Bank, it was one of their largest drive-up events they have had at that site, though they did expect to have some left over.
"For once, when you don't hit your target, it's a good thing," McKinney said.
Thank you to the @Pirates and @MeLlamoTrevor for supporting our food distribution today in Duquesne. Through Pirates Charities, as part of MLB's "Home Plate Project," we will be able to serve 1,000 families today. pic.twitter.com/lelmrkcIPs
