Forward Stefan Noesen was claimed off of waivers by the Sharks at 12 p.m. on Thursday.
Noesen, 26, recorded 14 goals and eight assists in 22 games with Wilkes-Barre this season on an AHL contract, playing on the right side of the top line with Sam Miletic and Andrew Agozzino. He earned an NHL contract on Dec. 2 and reported to Pittsburgh.
“We were talking about it for the past few weeks,” Noesen told me of the contract shortly after he signed. “I think with things transpiring the way they have recently with injuries, they were forced to do something a little sooner than they probably wanted to. But it worked out good for me.”
Noesen made his Penguins debut two days later and scored a goal:
“It felt good,” Noesen said with a smile after the game. “Coming to a new team, it’s a way to make your mark. Usually that’s not the way I do it, usually I have more of a checking role and chip in every now and then. First game, it felt good.”
That goal was Noesen's only point in his six games with the Penguins.
The Sharks are expected to keep Noesen in the NHL for the remainder of the season. If they try to send him down to the AHL and put him on waivers, the Penguins would be allowed to re-claim Noesen and assign him directly to Wilkes-Barre if no other team puts in a claim.
