The Pirates announced their 2020 promotional bobblehead schedule Thursday, featuring current players, Pirates legends and a superhero.
There will be six bobblehead nights, one more than there was for the 2019 season. The first comes on Mother's Day, May 10, when all kids and mothers receive a Pirates Wonder Woman bobblehead. For every other bobblehead promotion, only the first 20,000 fans in attendance will get a doll.
There will be a Joe Musgrove bobblehead on May 23, as part of Armed Forces weekend. On June 16, the Pirates will commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1960 World Series winning team, and a Bill Mazeroski Gold Glove bobblehead will be the giveaway. Josh Bell will get a bobblehead in his honor on July 4.
Aug. 8 will be Star Wars night, and Trevor Williams will have a themed bobblehead for the occasion. Williams is a vocal Star Wars fan, but he may not be 100% satisfied with the final design:
I tried my best to have my Star Wars bobblehead for next season to be Slave Leia/Trevor. I did everything I could.
— Trevor Williams (@MeLlamoTrevor) October 17, 2019
Do or do not, Trevor. There is no try.
The final bobblehead of the season will be on Sept. 12, commemorating the 30 year anniversary of Doug Drabek's 1990 Cy Young award. It will also be 90's night.
The designs for the dolls have not been released.
The Pirates' full promotion schedule is available on the team site. Other noteworthy giveaways are a batting practice cap for dads and kids on Father's Day, a Pirates Hawaiian shirt on July 18 and six Zambelli fireworks nights.
