CINCINNATI -- Perhaps 2019 will go down as the season of suspensions for the Pirates.
Bullpen coach Euclides Rojas has been suspended for two games, the team announced just before Tuesday night’s game with the Reds at Great American Ball Park. The Pirates did not elaborate on the reason for the suspension other than saying he “violated his contract.”
That was also the reasoning the Pirates gave last week when they suspended Keone Kela for two games.
The Pirates are 2-15 since the All-Star break. That means they have as many team-imposed suspensions as wins since July 12.
Rojas will serve his suspension Tuesday night and Wednesday afternoon when the Pirates and Reds complete their three-game series. He will return Friday when the Pirates open a three-game series against the Mets at PNC Park that also starts a six-game homestand that includes a visit by the Brewers.
Rojas is in his ninth season as the bullpen coach.
