CLEVELAND – Adam Frazier was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday, following a torrid seven-game stretch to begin July for the Pirates.
Frazier hit .600/.625/.933 with seven doubles, a home run and six RBIs. Frazier went a combined 9 for 10 last Monday and Tuesday against the Cubs at PNC Park then had multiple hits in all three games of the weekend's home series against the Brewers.
Frazier already has 18 hits in 30 at-bats in July. By comparison, he had 21 hits in 25 games in June.
The surge has lifted the second baseman’s season line to .287/.341/.416 through 82 games.
Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff was teammates with Frazier at Mississippi State and could only shake his head at his old friend’s exploits over the weekend.
“I’ve seen guys hot, but what he’s done in the last week is ridiculous,” Woodruff said Monday during All-Star Game media day. “He’s always been a really good hitter, but he’s been unbelievable. You can’t get him out right now.”
