Former Steelers quarterback and current preseason color analyst on the team's TV broadcasts Charlie Batch spent Saturday hospitalized for a serious bacterial infection and dehydration.
The news was reported by the former quarterback on Batch's LinkedIn feed.
"Its been one heck of a week. Started out working youth football camps in Mexico City, then back home at Slippery Rock Univ, then St Vincents College (sic)," Batch wrote. "But by the end of the week I was in the Hosptial (sic) for a bacterial infection (possibly Ecoli) along with severe dehydration.
"Sometimes your body tells you to sit yo butt down and take care of yourself. Remember to refuel, recharge and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Let this be a reminder that the heat can affect any of us, including ME."

Batch, a Homestead native, played eight seasons for the Steelers, serving as a backup to Ben Roethlisberger after spending four seasons with the Lions. He was originally a third-round draft pick of the Lions in 1998, becoming the team's starting quarterback as a rookie.
Batch started nine games in his career with the Steelers, going 6-3. He was part of two Super Bowl winners and one runner up before retiring following the 2012 season.
Since, Batch has been a constant around the team, serving as a coaching assistant at training camp and broadcasting preseason games. He's also served as an ambassador for the team, working camps such as the ones he participated in earlier this week.
