NEW YORK -- A suspected gas explosion tore through an apartment block in Evgeni Malkin's hometown of Magnitogorsk, Russia, on New Year's Eve. The death toll from the tragedy has reportedly now risen to 37.

Malkin inscribed two messages on his skates for Wednesday's game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden in support of those affected by the explosion. They translate to “Magnitogorsk we are with you,” and “Magnitogorsk you are in my heart.”
