Prospects score in WHL openers taken at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins)

Jordy Bellerive. -- LETHBRIDGE HURRICANES

The 2018-19 Western Hockey League season got underway on Friday, and it didn't take the Penguins' WHL prospects long to get on the board.

Forward Justin Almeida and the Moose Jaw Warriors opened the season on the road against the Brandon Wheat Kings. The Warriors lost 2-1, with Almeida scoring his team's only goal:

Almeida, the Penguins' 2018 fifth-round pick, registered three shots in the loss and won seven of 17 faceoff attempts. He's an alternate captain for Moose Jaw this season.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes, home of undrafted center prospect Jordy Bellerive and 2018 second-round pick defenseman Calen Addison, opened the season at home against the Medicine Hat Tigers. The Hurricanes fell 5-2, with Bellerive and Addison picking up power play tallies:

Bellerive, Lethbridge's captain, registered six shots and two penalty minutes, and was a minus-1 in the loss. He was even on faceoffs, winning five of 10. Addison registered four shots, and received a 10-minute misconduct with two seconds remaining in the game. He was a minus-2 overall.
