RICHMOND, Va. -- With the All-Star Game happening in D.C. tonight, I thought it’d be cool this week to focus on an impressive performance by a Pirates player in the event.
One problem: I couldn't recall one.
So I ended up having to go all the way back to Arky Vaughan’s effort in 1941, and it was a pleasure. I knew the man’s name, but I hadn’t really read up on him, and it’s a shame, because wow, he was a hell of a player! I’m honestly stunned that he doesn’t have a more prominent position in franchise lore.
Here's his official entry for the Baseball Hall of Fame, into which he was inducted in 1985.
