Because whether I'd have been right or wrong to be one of the very few reporters here to publicly express suspicion at Lochte's story about being robbed at gunpoint by fake cops, what suddenly became a full-blown global scandal Wednesday should -- that's should -- offer so much more by way of a powerful lesson regarding the Olympics themselves.
Let's start with this: Lochte lied. That's no longer a suspicion. It's not even an accusation. It's now cold, hard fact, with a list of demonstrable evidence that could stretch down to the tip of Argentina, the most damning of which has come from Lochte's own contradictions.
