RIO DE JANEIRO -- Leah Smith has a bronze, and now a gold as of Wednesday night's U.S. victory in the 4x200-meter freestyle relay, and Friday night in her third and final event of these Olympics, she could go 3 for 3 in what might be her strongest discipline, the 800 free.
Trouble is, the 800 free is also Katie Ledecky's strongest discipline, the one in which she took gold in London at age 15. And as young Ms. Ledecky has shown us here, there's no beating her even with a huge head start:
