Williams, Sampson among three latest pre-draft visits
The Steelers added three more players to their list of 30 pre-draft visits on Friday, welcoming Iowa defensive tackle Yahya Black, TCU wide receiver Savion Williams and Tennessee running back Dylan Sampson.
At 6-6 and 336 pounds, Black is a massive nose tackle that could help fill the Steelers' need on the defensive line. At the absolute worst, should the Steelers draft Black or sign him as an undrafted free agent, he could be thrust into a competition with Montravius Adams in training camp. Black needs a lot of work in terms of coaching, but his size and reputation as a space eater is intriguing.
Williams ranks 11th on PFF's wide receiver rankings, and he could very well be an option in the third round. He's got great size at 6-4 and 222 pounds, and he's a versatile threat that can play receiver, take direct snaps out of the backfield, run the wildcat and return kicks. He needs a bit of polish as a route runner and needs to clean up the drops, but he's capable of being a monster on contested catches.
Sampson is an interesting player in a deep class of running backs. He's a smaller back at 5-8 and 200 pounds. But, for those who remember Reggie Bush's USC days, that was Sampson's favorite player growing up -- and it shows up on tape. He's a dangerous one-cut runner that makes people miss and displays a good amount of patience to set up blocks. He also has surprisingly good run-after-contact ability, but needs to take another step in pass protection and ball security in order to become a true three-down back in the NFL. He's also a better inside zone runner as opposed to outside zone, so I'm curious of the fit. But, that's what these visits are for.
The full list of pre-draft visits:
• Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville • Dylan Sampson, RB, Tennessee • D.J. Giddens, RB, Kansas State (reported, but not confirmed) • Savion Williams, WR, TCU • *Wyatt Milum, OT, West Virginia • Yahya Black, DT, Iowa • J.J. Pegues, DT, Ole Miss
* - local visit, does not count toward 30 allotted visits
