Former Steelers defensive lineman Ray Seals has passed away at the age of 59, first made known by Nini Marie on X. His cause of death is not yet known.
The Steelers currently do not have any comment or statement on Mr. Seals' passing.
Mr. Seals, a native of Syracuse, N.Y., was with the Steelers for three seasons in 1994-96. That came after five years of playing with the Buccaneers. He helped fortify a strong defensive front as the 1994 and 1995 defenses were among the best in franchise history, leading to an AFC Championship Game appearance and Super Bowl appearance in those years, respectively.
With the Steelers, Mr. Seals racked up 83 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and15.5 sacks over the 1994-95 seasons. He missed the 1996 season with a torn rotator cuff. He then played one season with the Panthers before retiring after nine total years in the NFL.
