The Steelers' pursuit of Aaron Rodgers continues, though the team remains more and more confident he'll end up signing with them.
Art Rooney II addressed reporters following the conclusion of meetings at the NFL annual meeting, and throughout about a minute-and-a-half's worth of questions, maintained the same confidence both Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan had about the negotiation with Rodgers:
"Nothing new on the Aaron Rodgers front," Rooney said. "We'll see what happens. Hopefully we'll know something soon."
Rooney did add his own flavor, saying he's not content to wait "forever, but a little while longer." And, he didn't envision this process taking as long as it has.
However, he reinforced the positivity of the meeting they had with Rodgers 11 days ago at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. And he was encouraged by the throwing session Rodgers had with DK Metcalf, indicating more and more that the future Hall of Fame quarterback will eventually sign his name on the dotted line.
"I would say it's a good sign that he wanted to do that," Rooney said. "We keep hearing that he's, I guess, heading in our direction. Seems to be all signs are positive so far."
