McMillon shines at pro day: 'I think I had a great day'
Defensive back Donovan McMillon said his primary goal heading into Pitt's pro day today was to show the NFL scouts in attendance who he truly is as a player.
"I've been overlooked. People question my athletic ability, people question my speed," McMillon said following Wednesday's sessions at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. "I just wanted to go out and prove today that I'm a fast guy, athletic and one of the best players in this draft."
Regardless of the task that was placed in front of him, McMillon appeared determined to stand out. He put together 21 reps at 225 pounds in the bench press, leaped 35 inches in the vertical jump and led all participating players with a sub-4.5-second time in the 40-yard dash.
"I hit all my goals and actually ran a 4.4, which is what I wanted," McMillon said. "In all the skill drills, I hit real good times, and I showed smooth transitions in my ball drills. I think I had a great day."
McMillon started in 12 of Pitt's 13 games this past season and was a second-team All-ACC selection after leading the Panthers in tackles (115) for the second straight year. He was the first Pitt player to record consecutive 100-tackle seasons since linebacker Scott McKillop did it in 2007 and 2008.
