Baseball: Zuckerman homers twice in win over Akron
Pitt tied a season-high with four home runs this afternoon in the 16-7 win over Akron.
Ryan Zuckerman had his third multi-home run game of his young career and second this season with his two home runs on Tuesday. Zuckerman went 2 for 4 with two solo home runs, three runs scored and two hit-by-pitches. Luke Cantwell continued his hot streak this afternoon as he recorded three hits on the day for the fourth time in Pitt's last five games. He went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, two runs scored, two walks and a double. Cantwell is now hitting .425 and leads the team in hits with 31. Caden Dulin had his second three-hit game of the year, going 3 for 5 with a two-run single in the sixth. Lorenzo Carrier had a five-RBI day for just the second time in his career on Tuesday. He went 2 for 5 with a three-run shot and a two-run single. JaydenMelendez had a multi-hit day as well with two hits and a run scored.
Freshman left-hander Antonio Doganiero made the first start of his career and earned the first win of his career. He struck out a career-high six batters over four innings while allow just one earned run. Noah Czajkowski worked a scoreless eighth inning and allowed a single hit. Freshman Antonio Socarras made the first pitching appearance of his career and shut the door on Tuesday's contest in the ninth inning. He struck out two in his scoreless inning and did not surrender a hit.
Pitt hosts Kent State Wednesday at 3 p.m.
