Source: Pirates to recall Davis from Class AAA Indianapolis
The Pirates are recalling HenryDavis from Class AAA Indianapolis, per source. There is no word on what the corresponding move could be, but JoeyBart did exit yesterday's game in the second inning with low back discomfort.
Davis, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft, has appeared in eight minor-league games to begin the season. He's slashed .286/.355/.393 with a .748 OPS, three doubles, two RBIs, three walks and four strikeouts. On Friday, he went 2 for 4 with two runs, an RBI and two doubles.
Davis is a career .191 hitter over 99 big-league games. He hit .144 with 45 strikeouts in 104 at-bats through 37 games as a major leaguer last season.
This could be a significant opportunity for both Davis and the Pirates. It creates a chance for the former top pick to get at-bats at the major-league level and show that the work he put in over the offseason and during spring training can translate to improvement this time around. The Pirates are certainly in need of an offensive spark. Perhaps Davis can bounce back from his past struggles in the big leagues and help provide it.
