The Pirates got back in the win column Monday evening as Paul Skenes limited the Nationals to three hits and struck out six. The offense also set season highs in runs scored and hits. I'll have more from the clubhouse here:
• Derek Shelton was extra giddy after that win but added they still need to clean up the mistakes. Of his team going 8-for-10 with runners in scoring position, Shelton said he was just happy they had runners in scoring position.
• Shelton added that Endy Rodriguez will likely have to make an IL stint, he had to get four stitches on his right index finger. As far as who will play first base moving forward, Shelton said both Enmanuel Valdez and Adam Frazier can play there.
• Shelton on the mistakes that were made tonight: "The base running stuff though, we have to clean up. Those are things, we can’t give away outs. We can’t give away outs." Chris Halicke will have more on this.
• Paul Skenes was happy with the efficiency of his performance tonight and was very complimentary of Henry Davis entering the game early.
• Anyone remember Zoltan? Andrew McCutchen shared the story behind that tonight and while not directly comparing the Phiten necklaces to that, said it's something the team could do together and kind of rally around. I'll have more on that.
