Derek Shelton had no update on Jared Jones on Friday afternoon at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Fla. He said Todd Tomczyk may have an update in the next day or two.
• Shelton also provided an update on Oneil Cruz after the 26-year-old center fielder hasn't played in the last three games and isn't in the lineup today. He said Cruz played in a minor-league game today at Pirate City because he hasn't gotten a lot at-bats against lefties this spring and he got six at-bats in that situation today. He'll play tomorrow against the Orioles at LECOM Park.
• As far as first base goes, Shelton still isn't sure who will be there at the start of the season in Miami but he doesn't think it will be just one person: "I would be hard pressed to say that you'll see one person there, consistently. Pretty much like spring training, I think we'll probably see multiple people there.
• Carmen Mlodzinski and Justin Lawrence both threw yesterday on a back field at Pirate City. Lawrence threw an inning, while Mlodzinski threw four or five.
