Pirates win it in walk-off fashion. I'll add more from the clubhouse here.
• Derek Shelton on the way Andrew Heaney was able to attack hitters, mix pitches and keep hitters off balanced today: “That’s what Andrew Heaney does.”
• Shelton said he thinks Ryan Borucki just threw too many breaking balls in the ninth.
• Clubhouse is much more jubilant after a win like that one. Certainly didn't make it easy and there's still plenty this team didn't do well today, but a win is a win.
• Like the established and well-respected veteran he is, Heaney seemed to pick OneilCruz up and provide him with some encouragement after his defensive miscue that led to an AustinWells triple in the fourth inning.
"Guy is a 99 percentile athlete in everything he does, so when he goes out there and he's aggressive, whether he's aggressive and makes the play or aggressive and doesn't make the play, that's all you can ask for, and I appreciate that. I just want him to go out there and try to make every play, be the apex predator athlete that you are. I'm always going to be happy about that."
• TommyPham on his walk-off winner: “It felt great. I’ve been struggling, of course. Finally. Finally hit the ball hard, finally found barrel. It’s a good thing when you find barrel as a hitter.”
• Pham definitely wanted credit for a double on that one: “I’m going to have to put in a review on that because I did touch second. I did the veteran move and touched second.”
• There was encouragement from Heaney on that front: "I mean, I'm in here just watching Tommy hit a ball to left and it drops and I'm telling him 'Go touch second, get you a double,' you know what I mean? I'm happy for him. Happy for us that we get to return the favor on some walkoff hits. Hopefully we can carry that momentum into the series to come."
