Sergei Murashov's win streak in the AHL ended at 11 games with a 5-2 loss to the Checkers in Charlotte, N.C. on Sunday. Murashov stopped 32 of 35 shots, with the Checkers' latter two goals being empty netters. His 11-game win streak was tied with John Curry for the longest by any goaltender in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton history.
Atley Calvert scored his sixth of the season, and Valtteri Puustinen his 16th. Avery Hayes had a career-high seven shots on goal. Tristan Broz missed the game to serve a one-game suspension for cross-checking.
Tough loss for playoff implications. The top two teams in the Atlantic Division receive first-round byes. Wilkes-Barre ranked second in the division prior to the game, but Charlotte tied Wilkes-Barre in points but moved into second place with the tiebreaker with the win. Wilkes-Barre losing its top two forwards could end up costing the Penguins the bye. The AHL first round is only best-of-three, so a bye is massively important.
