Wilkes-Barre/Scranton clinched a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs for the 20th time in franchise history with a 4-3 overtime win over the Hartford Wolf Pack on Wednesday in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Sergei Murashov improved to 11-0 with 35 saves on 38 shots, and Avery Hayes scored twice, including a breakaway goal with 12 seconds left in overtime.
Valtteri Puustinen scored his 14th of the year to open the scoring, and Ville Koivunen scored in the third period to force overtime. Hayes, Koivunen, Boris Katchouk and Emil Bemstrom are in a four-way tie for the team-lead in goals with 21. Koivunen's goal was his 55th point, moving him back into the No. 1 spot for the league-leading scorer among rookies. Tristan Broz had a pair of assists. Rutger McGroarty had seven shots. Hayes fought in the third, making him an assist shy of a Gordie Howe hat trick.
