• The game comes to a merciful end. Sabres win 7-3. Sidney Crosby sets the point-per-game season record, Blake Lizotte lucks into a goal, Kevin Hayes scores. Back to Pittsburgh, that's the end of the trip.

• Short power play for the Sabres. Jiri Kulich is called for tripping six seconds in.

• Vladislav Kolyachonok takes a puck over glass penalty with 5:05 left.

• GOAL: Kevin Hayes, who leads the Penguins in shots, finds the back of the net. Sabres 7, Penguins 3

• Connor Dewar is back on the bench. 

• Big hit from Jacob Bernard-Docker on Connor Dewar. Dewar got crushed along the boards, his head hit the boards. Kevin Hayes flew in to defend him but Dewar didn't hesitate in defending himself, and handled himself well. Got the better of Bernard-Docker. Not crazy about Dewar fighting after just getting his head rocked, but he didn't give anyone a chance to fight his battle for him. He gets an extra two minutes for roughing out of it, but he went to the locker room, so Emil Bemstrom will serve the penalty.

• GOAL: Another one for the Sabres ... but this time into their own net. Kris Letang took the shot, Blake Lizotte took a shot off the rebound, Rasmus Dahlin was trying to clear it from the crease and kicked it in. So, Lizotte gets credit. Sabres 7, Penguins 2

• The Penguins have decided to play the third period. That's underway.

• End of the second, it's 7-1 Sabres are 22-20 Buffalo. Bunch of Penguins came over to give Alex Nedeljkovic taps to the pads at the end of the period.

• GOAL: Alex Tuch from the top of the right circle. Just another one with a totally open lane in front of him. Sabres 7, Penguins 1.

• Rasmus Dahlin and Connor Dewar each get two for roughing with 1:55 left in the period. It'll be four-on-for for the rest of the second.

• Blake Lizotte nearly bats in a rebound out of mid-air but James Reimer makes the save.

• Fans are chanting "We want seven!" I mean, at the rate things are going here they're on pace to get like, 10.

• GOAL: Another quick one. Alex Nedeljkovic makes the initial save on Beck Malenstyn, but the puck squirted out and was resting behind him in the crease. Tyson Kozak swept in and knocked it in. Sabres 6, Penguins 1

• GOAL: Sabres, just as their power-play expires. Jiri Kulich with his second goal of the game, beating Alex Nedeljkovic just over his glove. Sabres 5, Penguins 1

• Alex Nedeljkovic faces his first three shots in the first 30 seconds of the power play and makes easy work of them.

• Now the Sabres get a power play with 10:28 left in the second. Blake Lizotte sits for high-sticking.

• Nothing on that power play.

• Penguins get another power play. Connor Clifton sits for two for interference.

• GOAL: Jiri Kulich. Blake Lizotte looked like he clipped Jack Quinn's leg just before. Whatever it happened, it slowed him down and he caught up to Kulich just as he was scoring. Lizotte wasn't happy, tried to break his stick over the back of the net after. Sabres 3, Penguins 1.

• Second period is underway.

• End of the first. Sabres scored on their first two shots but Sidney Crosby's goal has the Penguins trailing only 2-1. Shots are 10-7 Buffalo.

• Sidney Crosby's parents Troy and Trina and girlfriend Kathy are here to see Crosby set the record.

• Nothing on the power play.

• Penguins get a power play now with 5:42 left in the first. Zach Benson high-sticked Kris Letang.

• GOAL: Sidney Crosby's goal from the slot gives him his 20th season with a point-per-game or better, surpassing Wayne Gretzky for the most in NHL history. Rickard Rakell was behind the net and found Crosby in the slot to set it up. Bryan Rust seemed happier than anyone, whacking Crosby in the chest a few times. Sabres 2, Penguins 1

• It's 10 minutes in and the Penguins have only even attempted two shots. Conor Timmins' that hit the net, and a Phil Tomasino attempt that got blocked.

• Took about eight minutes but the Penguins have a shot of their own now. Conor Timmins is the brave one to shoot.

• Third shot ... first save!

• GOAL: And the sequel: Second shot, second goal. A redirect from the crease, Peyton Krebs redirected a Connor Clifton shot. Sabres 2, Penguins 0
