Taylor Gauthier earned an 18-save shutout in the Nailers' 2-0 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones in Wheeling, W.Va on Friday. It was his second shutout of the season after previously shutting out the Cyclones in December.
The Nailers' two goals came 56 seconds apart in the first period. Defenseman Phip Waugh scored his second goal of the year, and forward Jack Beck his eighth.
Penguins defense prospect Chase Pietila made his pro debut. Pietila signed his entry-level deal earlier this month and joined Wilkes-Barre on a tryout deal for the remainder of the season, but with no room on the AHL blue line Pietila went down to Wheeling. He debuted on the second pairing with David Drake. Pietila's older brother Logan is a center in his first full season with the Nailers, and coach Derek Army put both brothers in the starting lineup.
