Defense prospect Harrison Brunicke made his AHL debut on Saturday and had the primary assist on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's third goal in a 5-3 win over the Checkers in Charlotte, N.C.
Brunicke, 18, skated on the right side of the Penguins' second defense pairing next to Filip Kral. He quarterbacked one of the power-play units, with his assist coming on a power play for Vasily Ponomarev's 14th goal of the year. Brunicke had one shot on goal and a minus-1 rating.
Wilkes-Barre's first two goals were Sam Poulin's 19th and Valtteri Puustinen's 15th, with Tristan Broz earning the lone assists on both. The Penguins got a pair of empty-net goals late -- Matt Nieto's third of the year and Joona Koppanen's seventh -- to go up 5-2. The Checkers scored in the final minute, making Nieto's empty-net goal the game-winner. Filip Larsson earned the win with 25 saves on 28 shots.
