• Sullivan on the comfort McGroarty could be feeling now that he has more professional hockey experience under his belt: "He has almost a full year now under his belt of pro hockey, and that's an adjustment for anybody, regardless of what their stature is. When they turn pro, it's a big jump, and so when you get that first year under your belt, I think the learning curve is steep. I think the experience that both Rutger and Ville have gained at the American League level is invaluable. That's a hard League. There's good players and it's competitive. These guys have, I think, a better understanding of what it means to be a pro and how to carry themselves. They also have a quiet confidence about them. And I think just having 70-plus games of pro hockey under their belt can only help them in that capacity."
• Sullivan said Novak is making progress and they're "hopeful" they can get him back on the ice in in-game competition before the end of the season.
• MikeSullivan said Malkin and P.O Joseph skated on their own this morning. Novak was continuing his rehab off the ice.
• McGroarty’s stall is right next to Crosby’s here in the locker room. Koivunen is to McGroarty’s left.
• Second unit: McGroarty, Tomasino, Hayes, Karlsson, Letang.
• Looks like the top power-play unit consists of Crosby, Rakell, Rust, Koivunen and Grzelcyk. Young guy getting a shot to play with the top guys.
• Here are the lines and defensive pairings:
Rutger McGroarty - Sidney Crosby - Bryan Rust Ville Koivunen - Rickard Rakell - Connor Dewar Phil Tomasino - Kevin Hayes - Noel Acciari Danton Heinen - Blake Lizotte - Emil Bemstrom
Matt Grzelcyk - Kris Letang Erik Karlsson - Conor Timmins Ryan Shea, Vladislav Kolyachonok and Ryan Graves have all been rotating in.
• McGroarty playing alongside SidneyCrosby and BryanRust during line rushes.
• TommyNovak and EvgeniMalkin look to be the only notable absences.
• VilleKoivunen and RutgerMcGroarty have taken the ice for practice this morning.
• Now RyanGraves and RyanShea have joined their fellow defenseman for some early work on the ice. Shea returned to the lineup in Buffalo following an absence due to a finger injury.
• Good morning from Cranberry! VladislavKolyachonok is the first player on the ice a good 20-plus minutes before the start of practice. Was already out here going through drills when I first got here.
