Forward Lars Rødne became the first Norwegian player to suit up for the Nailers on Saturday, and he scored the opening goal in a 3-1 win over the Trois-Rivières Lions.
Rødne, 24, is a 6-foot, 181-pound winger with a left-handed shot. He's a native of Stavanger, Norway and spent time in the top Norwegian pro league from 2017-19 before moving to North America to play two years of junior hockey in the NAHL. Rødne just wrapped up his senior season at Niagara University, where he scored 10 goals and four assists in 29 games. He had a four-game tryout with the ECHL's Adirondack Thunder, where he had a goal and an assist, before signing with the Nailers.
The Nailers' other goals were Jordan Martel's 16th and Matt Koopman's 14th, with Matthew Quercia recording the primary assists on both. Jaxon Castor stopped 18 of 19 shots for the win.
