Senior guard MeganMcConnell of the Duquesne women's basketball team accepted a training camp invitation from the Phoenix Mercury on Monday night following the conclusion of the WNBA Draft. She will report to camp on April 27, where she'll look to earn a roster spot.
The Pittsburgh native put together one of the most decorated careers in Duquesne women's basketball history. She finished her five-year career second on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,795 points, while becoming Duquesne's all-time leader in both assists (660) and steals (370). McConnell also holds the program records for games played (144), career starts (136), and triple-doubles (4). Despite standing just 5-7, she pulled down 1,079 career rebounds, second-most in school history, with a 7.5 rebounds per game average that ranks 10th. A consistent threat from beyond the arc, McConnell made 209 three-pointers, placing her sixth all-time at Duquesne, and her 4.6 assists per game average is seventh-best in program history.
McConnell is no stranger to accolades, consistently earning recognition for her standout performances on both ends of the court. She was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watchlist in back-to-back seasons (2023–24, 2024–25), and this year, she was honored as one of five finalists. Notably, she was the only mid-major player named to the 2025 Naismith Women's Defensive Player of the Year Watchlist and also earned a spot on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Midseason Watchlist. McConnell capped off her collegiate career by competing in the 2025 Lilly Women's College All-Star Game and being crowned the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year. A two-time A-10 All-Conference First Team selection and two-time A-10 All-Defensive Team honoree, she also excelled in the classroom, earning A-10 All-Academic Team honors for three consecutive seasons and being named to the CSC Academic All-District® Team three times.
The senior guard capped off her Duquesne career with a standout season, posting career-highs across nearly every statistical category. She led the Atlantic 10 in scoring with 18.4 points per game, sixth-best in program history, and totaled 626 points on the year, the fourth-highest single-season mark ever at Duquesne. McConnell also topped the conference in total assists (171) and assists per game (5.0), while leading the entire nation in total steals (138) and ranking second in steals per game (4.06).
