The Steelers have signed wide receiver Jaray Jenkins to the 90-man roster. The team made the signing official Monday afternoon.
Jenkins, 24, originally signed with the Jaguars as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. He played with Jacksonville in the preseason, hauling in two receptions for 32 yards, but was released prior to the start of the regular season.
Jenkins played his college football at LSU, where he played in 43 games over the course of four seasons. During that time, Jenkins recorded 89 receptions for 1,370 yards and 14 touchdowns. At the 2023 Combine, Jenkins measure 6-1, 204 pounds and ran and 4.60 40-yard dash.
In a related move, the team waived/injured cornerback Luq Barcoo.
Adding Jenkins to the mix, the Steelers now have 12 receivers on the roster. That number will most likely be whittled down to five by the time the Steelers set their 53-man roster ahead of the 2024 season. There is a lot of competition in store for the position by the time training camp begins in late July, and it could be even more competitive if the Steelers were to somehow make a splash trade for an impact receiver sometime this month.
Now that we're past the June 1 deadline, teams can save much more cap space if they trade players, which could spark more talks between general managers. While the Steelers have long been at the center of the receiver rumor mill, we have yet to see a trade materialize.
