Minor-league report: Davis, Johnson homer; Altoona blows another late lead taken in Downtown (Pirates)

A look at Saturday’s minor-league action within the Pirates' system ...

INDIANAPOLIS (24-30) lost to Omaha, 4-2. Henry Davis hit a solo home run in the first inning and Jack Suwinski had an RBI single in the eighth. 

Indianapolis struck out 12 times and did not draw a walk as a team. Matt Gorski had a pair of singles and scored on Suwinski's hit. 

ALTOONA (16-34) lost to Portland, 11-8 in 10 innings. The Curve held a 4-2 lead into the ninth inning, but Kyle Teel hit a grand slam and Mickey Gasper brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to give the Sea Dogs a 7-4 lead off of Curve reliever Emmanuel Chapman. 

Altoona responded with a three-run ninth to tie the game a 7 and send it to extra innings. Tsung-Che Cheng had an RBI single and Dustin Peterson brought in two with a single with the bases loaded and two out. Peterson advanced to second on defensive indifference and Brenden Dixon walked to load the bases, but Jackson Glenn lost a seven-pitch at-bat by swinging at a high and tight fastball to send the game into the 10th.

Portland scored four runs -- one earned -- off of Darvin Garcia in the 10th. Sammy Siani scored three runs. Jase Bowen went 3-for-6 with a triple.and an RBI.

This is the second game in a row in which Altoona lost a lead late. In Friday's loss in extra innings, Altoona held a 6-3 lead in the eighth inning but lost 8-6 in 10 innings.

GREENSBORO (29-21) lost at Asheville, 4-3. Termarr Johnson hit a two-run homer in the first and Josiah Sightler hit a solo homer in the second for Greensboro's only run production. 

Grasshoppers reliever Cy Nielson struck out four in two perfect innings to end the game. 

BRADENTON (21-29) lost both ends of a double header at Fort Myers, 8-3 in Game 1 and 3-1 in Game 2. 

In Game 1, Michael Kennedy surrendered five runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in four innings. Reliever Carlos Jimenez allowed three runs in two innings. Shalin Polanco and Javier Rivas each went 2-for-2 with a walk drawn. Rivas and Keiner Delgado each hit solo homers.

In Game 2, Bradenton's lone run scored when Fort Myers catcher Matthew Clayton was called for catcher's interference with the bases loaded in the first inning. The Marauders mustered three hits, walked once and struck out 14 times in the seven-inning game. Khristian Curtis went the distance for Bradenton. He struck out four, walked two and allowed four hits.
