I mentioned in this feature a week ago that we're adding.
Well, we're really adding.
Please join Dali and me in welcoming two reporters, Amanda Filipcic-Godsey on the Steelers and Matthew Baldwin on the Riverhounds. Amanda will get going with us for the Steelers' rookie minicamp next weekend at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, and Matthew will do so with the Riverhounds' match tonight against Miami at Highmark Stadium.
Amanda's born and raised in Monongahela, Pa., hometown of Joe Montana, and she's a football ... well, you'll see. Before coming to us, she covered Pitt athletics for the Tribune-Democrat in Johnstown, Pa., for six years and served as that paper’s Steelers columnist for the past two seasons. She received her B.A. in radio/TV broadcasting at California University of Pennsylvania before attending nursing school. After a decade of real-life work as a nursing assistant and a registered nurse, she returned to her journalism roots.
As for this bloke ...
DALI KOVACEVIC / DKPS
Matthew Baldwin in front of 224 Fifth Avenue, Downtown.
Matthew's got the soccer thing down to a science: He's recently arrived into our city from England, he knows the sport inside out, and his writing reflects both, which is kinda cool, I've got to confess. Before coming to us, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Journalism at the University of East London and a Master's Degree in Sports Broadcasting from Staffordshire University, also in the U.K. He put both to use across several media outlets back across the pond, with one of his highlights covering the NFL's international games in London.
And just wait. There's more.
Told you guys last week: We're not messing around.
INSIDE THE WORKS
• Our BoomPress developers put out an app update this past week, one that offers a temporary solution to our refreshing issue. If you tug on the app, even though you don't see a tug motion, the content will refresh. It's not ideal, but it's better than not having it at all. We'll keep at it.
• Thanks so much to longtime subscriber Alan Tignanelli for his extraordinary generosity in coming to the HQ/shop yesterday to perform a thorough maintenance on my Fender Strat, all new strings and all else. Love this place.
• Our 10th anniversary celebration will be July 23 at the HQ/shop. We've already heard from quite a few of you planning to attend, including some from well out of town. For anyone looking into a longer trip, know that the Pirates and Cardinals have a three-game series at PNC Park at that time, so it's a nice double-dip.
• If you're a Facebook type, come join our DKPS Lunatics group on there. Zero cost. It's for discussion, but it's also an alternative way to keep apprised of new material here.
• Everyone loving being ad-free? If you're not there yet, it's only for paying subscribers. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: this is our new subscribe page. Make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/renew at the monthly or annual level. We also have discounts, as ever, for student subscriptions and senior subscriptions.
• Grateful that so many of you continue to leave us good reviews on outside platforms. There've been hundreds of reviews already. For anyone who hasn't yet, feel free to add your own on our Google listing, our Apple or Spotify podcast channels, our YouTube channels for the Steelers, Penguins and Pirates and, last but definitely not least, our own app, whether it's the Apple or Android version. And again, thank you!
