The Pirates and the Pittsburgh Stadium Independent Employees Union (PSIEU) -- who represent the ushers, ticket takers and ticket sellers at the ballpark-- have reached a tentative agreement for a new contract, both sides confirmed to DK Pittsburgh Sports Tuesday.

The deal has yet to be ratified, but there will be no strike outside of the stadium when the Pirates return home to take on the Reds on April 20.

“We are very pleased to report that we have reached a tentative agreement with the PSIEU on a new collective bargaining agreement this afternoon," senior vice president of communications Brian Warecki said in a team statement. "The Union will be scheduling a ratification vote for membership at the end of April, and advised us that employees will be reporting for work as scheduled.  The passion, dedication and teamwork that our employees bring to the ballpark makes a difference to our organization, our players and our fans. We look forward to sharing in what is shaping up to be an exciting 2023 season at PNC Park.”

The PSIEU announced Sunday night that they had voted in favor of a strike after rejecting the club's most recent offer. As previously reported, under the Pirates' proposal on Sunday, ticket sellers would make $19 per hour and greeters $18.65 per hour in 2023, and ushers would make a base pay of $12.40 per hour in 2023 while continuing to be permitted to accept tips. The union wanted something closer to the national average wage of $13.80 for ushers.

Terms of the new agreement are not known.
