The NHL on Thursday announced its representatives from each team for next month's All-Star Game, and there should be no surprise as to who will be representing the Penguins.
Sidney Crosby was chosen by the league to represent the Penguins in the All-Star Game, marking the ninth time he has been chosen following selections in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019. He's only played in four of those games, having missed the other four due to injury.
Only Mario Lemieux has been chosen for more All-Star Games in Penguins franchise history. Crosby's ninth selection ties him with Jaromir Jagr for the second-most selections.
Crosby leads the Penguins this season in both goals (19) and points (43) through 37 games. His 33 even-strength points rank No. 3 in the league.
The All-Star weekend will take place Feb. 3-4 in Sunrise, Fla. at the home of the Panthers. The format will again include a skills competition on Friday, Feb. 3 followed by a three-on-three tournament between the four divisions on Feb. 4.
Other players selected for the Metropolitan Division team are Andrei Svechnikov (Hurricanes), Johnny Gaudreau (Blue Jackets), Jack Hughes (Devils), Brock Nelson (Islanders), Igor Shesterkin (Rangers), Kevin Hayes (Flyers) and Alex Ovechkin (Capitals).
Three more players (two skaters and one goaltender) will be added to each division's team through a fan vote. Voting can be found here. Fans can also vote through tweets through Jan. 12-14 by tweeting the player's full name or Twitter handle along with the hashtag #NHLAllStarVote.
