The Pirates placed Bryan Reynolds and Cole Tucker on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday afternoon before their game at PNC Park against the Brewers, promoting outfielder Jack Suwinski and utilityman Tucupita Marcano from Class AA Altoona in their place.

Why Altoona?

No one from the team's addressed the matter yet -- that's expected from Derek Shelton after the game -- but the Curve's currently playing a series in Akron, Ohio, and Class AAA Indianapolis is in Des Moines, Iowa.

The COVID list has no minimum duration, so there's no clear guideline as to how long Reynolds and Tucker would be out.

Suwinski, 23, was batting .353 -- 18 for 51 with three home runs, eight doubles, 13 RBIs and a .421 OBP in 13 games for Altoona. All of his defensive appearances this season have been in right field. He'll be making his first appearance in Major League Baseball.

Marcano, 22, was batting .250 -- 9 for 36 -- with a home run and two RBIs in 11 games for Altoona. He's made nine starts in left field, two at second base. He played 25 games for the Padres in 2021 and batted .182.

Both Suwinski and Marcano came from San Diego as part of the Adam Frazier trade July 26, 2021, along with pitcher Michell Miliano.

Earlier in the day, Anthony Banda was placed on the 10-day IL, retroactive to April 23, with a non-COVID viral illness. Another lefty, Sam Howard, was recalled from Indianapolis to take his place in the bullpen.

More to come after the game.
