The Steelers have hired their second former Panthers assistant of this offseason as an addition to Mike Tomlin's staff as offensive line coach Pat Meyer has been tapped to take the same position in Pittsburgh.
Meyer, 49, is a native of Youngstown, Ohio, and has been an assistant coach in the NFL since 2013.
He replaces Adrian Klemm, who left the Steelers with two games remaining in the season to take a position with the University of Oregon. Assistant offensive Chris Morgan, who was elevated to replace Klemm, was hired last month to be offensive line coach with the Bears.
Meyer spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with the Panthers. Prior to that, he was offensive line coach from 2017 through 2019 for the Chargers. His 2017 unit allowed an NFL-low 17 sacks. Meyer was assistant offensive line coach with the Bills in 2015 and 2016, and began his career in the NFL as assistant offensive line coach with the Bears in 2013 and 2014.
Prior to that, Meyer was a strength and conditioning coach and offensive line coach at a number of colleges, including Memphis, North Carolina State and Florida State before spending one season in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes.
Meyer will be tasked with helping fix a line that started two rookies most of last season in left tackle Dan Moore and center Kendrick Green. The Steelers ranked 29th in rushing and allowed 38 sacks, their highest total since 2013.
Meyer played one season in the NFL with the Cardinals in 1995 and one with the St. Louis Stampede (1996) in the Arena Football League. He was a three-time All-Western Athletic Conference selection at Colorado State.
Earlier this month, the Steelers hired former Panthers wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson to fill the same position on Tomlin's staff.
