ATLANTA -- Pitt basketball's schedule just had its first change due to COVID-19 of the 2021-22 season.
The Panthers' scheduled game against Virginia Tech Saturday in Blacksburg, Va. has been postponed due to an outbreak of COVID-19 within the Hokies' basketball team. The ACC made the announcement Thursday afternoon, as COVID-19 continues to impact sports with more collegiate and professional athletes testing positive for the coronavirus across the country.
Jeff Capel's Panthers, even as a young team, aren't unfamiliar with rescheduled games. Pitt had six games during the 2020-2021 season that were either postponed and rescheduled, or completely cancelled due to players and coaches testing positive for COVID-19.
The ACC said with its announcement that it would look to reschedule the game on a date that works for both programs. But as more such postponements continue to occur, that may prove difficult if several programs start to stack games that need to be rescheduled.
Pitt's next game is scheduled against Louisville for Wednesday, Jan. 5, in Louisville, Ky.
