NFL cut tracker: Could the Steelers find a slot corner? taken on the South Side (Steelers)

NFL teams must trim their rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. today.

The Steelers might be inclined to do a little bargain shopping. They have the available cap space to potentially upgrade their roster at some key areas.

With the Steelers going with only eight offensive linemen and four cornerbacks on their 53-man roster, it would seem more moves are likely.

Here are some players who are being or will be released according to reports from around the league who might be of interest.

Jimmy Moreland, CB, Washington -- Washington signed William Jackson away from the Bengals in the offseason and that changed the dynamic in their defensive backfield, opening the door for Moreland to be released. Moreland (5-10, 179 pounds) played 494 snaps in the slot for Washington last season, intercepting one pass and not allowing a touchdown. According to Pro Football Focus, he allowed 51 catches on 71 targets, but only gave up 8.6 yards per catch and a passer rating when targeted of 81.8. It might take Moreland some time to get up to speed, but at the very least, he could serve as the backup nickel corner and play in the dime.

John Reid, CB, Seahawks -- Reid is being released by the Seahawks after playing 145 defensive snaps as a rookie in 2020, including 115 in the slot. The former Penn State star was a fourth-round pick of Seattle in 2020. There is upside potential here.

Cre'Von LeBlanc, CB, Dolphins -- LeBlanc was signed by Miami this offseason but didn't work out. He's previously played for the Eagles. Lions and Bears, with most of his playing time coming as a slot corner. LeBlanc has logged over 1,000 of his nearly 1,600 career snaps in the slot.

Nickell Roby-Coleman, CB, Lions -- Roby-Coleman has been one of the top-rated slot corners. He had a down season in 2020, but has a track record.

Chris Banjo, S, Cardinals -- Banjo is a versatile chess piece, having lined up 208 snaps at free safety, 61 in the slot and 125 snaps in the "box" last season for Arizona. He was targeted 17 times, allowing 13 receptions in 2020 for 139 yards with two pass breakups. Banjo spent three seasons with the Packers, two with the Saints and the previous two with the Cardinals, but last season was his high for playing time with 436 overall snaps. But he could be a versatile chess piece capable of filling several roles.

Will Parks, S, Chiefs -- Parks joined the Chiefs in the offseason and it didn't work out. He spent his first four seasons with the Broncos before splitting time with the Broncos and Eagles last season. Parks played 221 snaps in the slot last season and 293 there last season, though the 2019 season was not kind, as he allowed five touchdown passes with an interception. He does have four career interceptions and sacks in each of the past two seasons and the Steelers value blitzing ability from the slot.

Damarious Randall, DB, Seahawks -- Still just 29, he's lined up at free safety and corner over the course of his career. He could serve dual purpose with the Steelers and essentially handle dime duties. If he's completely healthy.

MyCole Pruitt, TE, 49ers -- Pruitt is one of the best blocking tight ends in the NFL despite being a little undersized at 6-foot-2, 245 pounds. Because of his lack of length, he's not necessarily a pass blocker, but the former Titans tight end knows how to seal the edge. He's the kind of blocker the Steelers only hope Zach Gentry can turn into, even though they're completely different-sized players.

Karl Joseph, S, Raiders -- The Steelers have always had an interest in Joseph going back to his days at West Virginia and did again this offseason before he signed with the Raiders. He's been a bit of a bust in the NFL, but he's got starting experience and would certainly help on special teams.

Forrest Lamp, G, Bills -- Lamp is a former second-round pick of the Chargers who joined the Bills this offseason, but couldn't crack their lineup. But he allowed just two sacks last season in 17 games. And he's still young enough at 27 to have some upside.

Jermaine Eluemunor, OT, Jaguars -- Eluemunor has started at both left and right tackle in his career. He played 419 snaps last season for the Patriots. A former fifth-round pick of the Ravens, he spent two years in Baltimore and two with New England before this season. So he's had some good coaching. Also can play guard.

Le'Raven Clark, OT, Eagles -- A former third-round pick of the Colts, Clark has started games at both left and right tackle and guard. He started two games at left tackle and one at right tackle last season for the Colts.

Tyrell Crosby, OT, Lions -- Detroit's starter at right tackle for most of last season, he's also played on the left side at times. The former fifth-round draft pick is still just 25, so there's still room to grow.
