Steelers cancel annual practice at Latrobe Memorial Stadium taken in Hagerstown, Md. (Steelers)

The Steelers traveling to Saint Vincent College in Latrobe is a part of summer. Fans, restaurants and the small town of Latrobe always embrace the players and fans flocking to their town to watch their beloved Steelers prepare for the upcoming season.

If training camp has an event which is always marked on the calendar it is the Friday night lights practice held at Latrobe Memorial Stadium. The pads pop with the 'backs-on-'backers drill on full display, and this is always one of the more physical practices during training camp. Players take their time circulating the track and sign as many autographs as they can for the fans who have been patiently waiting.

But, as the coronavirus pandemic as done with a lot of events in 2020, the Steelers won't be heading to Latrobe High School this year. This per Burt Lauten, director of public relations for the Steelers.

To recap what the Steelers' summer will look like, the team will be staying at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, with training camp officially being held at Heinz Field. Since the Steelers won't be traveling anywhere, the only chance fans could possibly get to see their team in person would be if the organization again holds a one-night Fanfest event at Heinz Field, a facility large enough to allow social distancing. The Steelers have held Fanfest the last few years at Heinz Field, but the NFL will likely have a large say in what teams can, and can't, do as it pertains to fans in attendance.

At this point and time it seems far fetched to believe such an event would take place, but it would be the last opportunity for any sense of normalcy surrounding the usual summer activities of the Steelers.
