Edmunds explains Twitter flap taken at Rooney Complex (Steelers)

Terrell Edmunds – MATT SUNDAY / DKPS

Steelers safety Terrell Edmunds took some heat on social media earlier this week when he liked a Tweet by former teammate Antonio Brown that appeared to take a shot at Ben Roethlisberger.

Moments after news began to leak out regarding Roethlisberger's statements Monday about the very public breakup between Brown and the Steelers -- the quarterback's first statement about it -- Brown tweeted "Two Face."

Edmunds, the team's top draft pick in 2018, "liked" the post. He later took his "like" away.

"I just go through and like things all the time," Edmunds said Thursday, the first time he's spoken about the subject. "I didn't think about it. I didn't see what was going on, see the whole picture of everything until people started tagging me in it. I would never put down a teammate or anybody I previously played with."

Edmunds said he has spoken to teammates regarding the situation and everything is fine.

"A lot of people took it out of context. To each his own," Edmunds said. "Everyone on the team knew I didn't mean anything by it. Everyone who knows me knows I didn't mean anything by it. I talked to Ben. I talked to (Ramon Foster). I talked to Cam (Heyward) right after it blew up because they knew I didn't mean anything by it.

"I just feel it got blown out of proportion on social media. People take it how they want to take it."

Edmunds and some of the team's other young players, including linebacker Ola Adeniyi, worked out with Brown during the offseason while much of the drama was playing out, culminating with Brown being traded to the Raiders.

None of those players felt they were being disloyal to the Steelers or their teammates. They were simply trying to learn from Brown and his maniacal workouts.

"You hate to see a guy with that kind of talent leave the team," Adeniyi, a second-year linebacker told me. "Obviously, it's not the way we want that to go. He's one of the hardest-working guys on this planet. Just to work with him and get better, you can't pass up on that option. So I went there and worked with him and got better."

Both Adeniyi and Edmunds say they remain close with Brown, despite the fact the receiver has continued to take shots at Roethlisberger -- such as the one earlier this week -- and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

"I was really close with AB. He adds a lot to this game. He's done this for years. He's a professional," said Adeniyi, who earned a roster spot in 2018 as an undrafted rookie out of Toledo.

"So I kind of connected and he gave me some tips on what to do. Young guys, growing up, you look up to somebody and it's a great thing to be able to talk to one of the best in the game and get little tips on what to do and how to work. I had that connection with him. I'm going to keep that connection with him. Hopefully, he works with JuJu and works with Ben and they get back together at some point."
