One of the Robert Morris women's hockey team captains, senior defender Maggie LaGue, was selected 22nd overall in the National Women's Hockey League Draft by the Connecticut Whale on Thursday afternoon.
"We are very excited for Maggie, what a great honor! Maggie's career here at RMU has been outstanding. She continues to grow as a person and player each day," said Colonials head coach Paul Colontino. "Her skill sets and leadership qualities will be a huge asset for Connecticut."
LaGue currently leads all Colonials defenders in scoring this season with four goals and 11 assists in 22 games. LaGue has amassed 12 goals and 72 assists through 127 career games with Robert Morris. She ranks second all-time in franchise assists, trailing only Brittany Howard ('18).
LaGue, 21, is the second Colonial to be drafted by the NWHL, following Howard's selection at 10th overall in 2017. Six Robert Morris products have played in the NWHL -- Rebecca Vint ('15), Ashley Vesci ('15), Brianne McLaughlin ('11), Morgan Beikirch '09, and current Connecticut goaltender Meeri Räisänen ('11). Former operations director Kelley Steadman also played two seasons in the NWHL.
