REYKJAVIK, Iceland -- Good morning!
Our weeklong vacation through this little country, among the northernmost land masses on the planet and home to fewer people than Pittsburgh proper, began with an exhausting but exhilarating Day 1.
After landing in Reykyavik, checking into our hotel in the quaint, classy downtown and catching a few Zs, we spread out across the eastern portion of the island. My son Marko had pretty much drawn up what he hoped to see and, as you can see in the video below, we tested out Iceland's surreal terrain, stood right by an active geyser going off, made friends with an Icelandic horse and, most breathtaking by far, watched one of the world's most powerful waterfalls at Gullfoss:
Oh, for real.
It's beautiful beyond words. On top of that, the temps are a crisp 48 degrees -- right up my alley -- and the air is cleaner than any human should have a right to breathe.
We're all loving this so far!
