Dukes somehow summon confidence, rout UMass

Facing an early nine-to-nothing run, Jim Ferry’s Duquesne team could have turned tail, rung up a ninth consecutive loss, and no one, possibly including the participants, would have been too surprised.

But the Dukes did not such thing, turning instead toward the final stretch of the season by mashing Massachusetts, 96-66, Wednesday night at the A.J. Palumbo Center.

"I think this is one of the first times we actually put together a full game," Ferry said in the wake of the 30-point rout, which tied the fourth-largest margin of victory in a conference game in school history. "These guys for the first time really put it all together in league play. I thought it was a good team win."
