Michael Young felt victory was inevitable. Pitt's switching man-to-man defense was frustrating Notre Dame with relentless pursuit and sparked a 5-point lead in overtime.

Only two minutes separated the Panthers from opening the 18-game ACC schedule with a defining win, but it took 71 seconds for their disciplined defense to unravel on Saturday afternoon.

Notre Dame guard Steve Vasturia took advantage of the Panthers' miscues with two 3-pointers, including the go-ahead shot from the left corner with 2.4 seconds remaining in overtime, to send the No. 24 Fighting Irish to a 78-77 win at the Petersen Events Center.
