COLUMBUS, Ohio — What happened at Nationwide Arena on Thursday night was something of a team meltdown. After all, when teams lose, 7-1, as the Penguins did to the Blue Jackets, there isn't merely one man responsible.

But one performance really did stick out.

Derrick Pouliot told me on Monday that he wanted an opportunity to prove to the coaching staff that he could be a regular NHL contributor. After managing to somehow get benched in a 7-2 win on Tuesday, his performance only declined against the Blue Jackets. In fact, one could argue his performance triggered the rout.
