MILWAUKEE -- Miller Park wasn't kind to Jordy Mercer last year, although not in the same way it's been harsh to the Pirates over the past decade.

Thirteen months ago, Carlos Gomez plowed into Mercer's left knee, causing a ligament sprain that cost the shortstop about six weeks.

It could have been worse -- just compare it to Jung Ho Kang's injury on a similar play two months later -- but it was traumatic nonetheless.

“You try to block those things out, but it’s always going to be there, knowing that it’s the first time you land on the DL," Mercer said after Friday's 5-3 Pirates win. "First time that I was hurt pretty seriously."
