Ron Ledgard

RON LEDGARD, born and raised in North Huntingdon, is the Editor in Chief for DKPittsburghSports.com.

Career: Ron, who graduated from Norwin High School, began his journalism career at the University of Pittsburgh on the Pitt News staff and worked as a correspondent for the Pittsburgh Press, covering high school sports but mostly hockey, including some games that Dejan covered for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. After graduating from Pitt in 1990, he worked as a stringer for a number of newspapers and magazines in Pittsburgh. His first full-time gig, coming in 1992, was as a copy editor and page designer for the Valley News Dispatch and North Hills News Record. He moved to the Tribune-Review as the Sunday sports editor and sports copy desk chief in 1996. From there, he added duties overseeing the sports page designing desk for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. In 2000, Ron was hired as a sports copy editor and page designer for the Akron Beacon Journal. After six years, he became the deputy Sports Editor, and then a year later, he was named Sports Editor. He ran the award wining sports staff, that included beat coverage of the Indians, Browns, Cavaliers, LeBron James, Ohio State football and the University of Akron and Kent State and 85 high schools. In 2014, he became the digital director for Ohio.com, the website for the Beacon Journal, overseeing all phases of the digital products, including the newsroom, advertising and circulation.

Personal: Ron lives in Green, Ohio, with his family; wife, Kristy; son, Owen; mom, Gladys. His oldest son Trace (@Tj_Ledgard; he wants more followers on Twitter) is a sophomore at Pitt. Ron loves to read, especially longform journalism. He started running in the past year and, amazingly, has finished a couple of 5K and 10K races. Other than sports, politics draws his attention. And he might be able to challenge Dejan’s Starbucks addiction (Venti vanilla flat white, thanks for asking).
