STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – One week from today Penn State’s coaching staff will huddle in the coaching suite in the Lasch Football Building and celebrate however many letters come rolling through the fax machine.

For the time being, the 2017 recruiting class has 18 members, though that number is likely to grow by at least one – and possibly as many as three – within the next seven days. Unless something strange happens within the next week this should be another top-20 recruiting class for James Franklin and staff, but why is this next week still so important?

“If signing day was today, we've got a pretty good class,” Franklin said Saturday. “If we can get a few more pieces of the puzzle, you know, there's no perfect class, but if we can get a few more pieces of the puzzle, we feel good about it.”
