One of West Virginia’s best, Gibson to declare for NFL Draft

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia wide receiver Shelton Gibson won't be back to chase down a 1,000-yard receiving season, the junior announced Wednesday via his Instagram account.

"After many emotional talks with God, family, coaches and teammates, I have decided to enter the 2017 NFL Draft," his post read. "Even with favorable feedback from the NFL, I understand that nothing in football comes easy and everything will be earned. This is the case whether it was this year or next. I'm mentally and physically prepared to give 200% to be the absolute best player I can be."

Gibson caught caught 43 passes for 951 yards and eight touchdowns this year, bringing his three-year total to 84 catches for 1,898 yards and 17 touchdowns as a Mountaineer. The junior was named to the All-Big 12 Conference's second team by the league's coaches and ProFootballFocus.com, and to the league's first team by the Associated Press.
